villaitaliamiami.com - Miami Beach Boutique Hotel In the United States, Art Deco was a product of new ideas and movements and found its inspirations in many distinct early 20th Century European design styles such as Cubism, French Art Deco, German Bauhaus and Expressionism, Dutch de Stijl and Amsterdam School, Vienna Secession and others. Miami Beach architects used local imagery to create what we now call Tropical Deco. These buildings feature relief ornamentation featuring whimsical flora, fauna and ocean-liner motifs to reinforce the image of Miami Beach as a seaside resort. The Historic Preservation Board of Miami beach declared Harmon Villa a Historic building status due to its rich history and architectural design significance in the community. Its history captures this remarkable growth of Miami Beach from a seaside area to residential community. In 2009 under the visionary creation of new ownership, Harmon Villa began a major construction restoration project to restore its beauty and original architecture. Construction completed in March 2011 in what is now known as Villa Italia Hotel. Villa Italia Hotel features a private Villa which happens to be 1 of only 2 Villas in all of Miami Beach. Zaha Hadid, une architecture Video Clips. Duration : 0.43 Mins.

BUCKY BAR Video Clips. Duration : 0.00 Mins.
Geodesic dome made from umbrellas leads to spontaneous public street party in Rotterdam (NL) A spontaneous street party in winter? Last Friday evening Feb. 19th the Bucky Bar -- a temporary public building designed by DUS architects was launched. The dome bar made entirely of umbrellas, seemed to appear suddenly out of nowhere around a lamppost in the centre of Rotterdam. The fully equipped bar, complete with DJ and drinks, was built directly on site. Approximately 300 visitors danced despite the cold under the umbrella roof, until at 2:00am when the police ended the party, as there was no permit. The Bucky Bar is part of a series of five unsolicited positive proposals for the future of the city of Rotterdam, that DUS architects in collaboration with SUA (Studio for Unsolicited Architecture) launched on Thursday night by modifying official municipal billboards by pasting their own ideas over the top. The Bucky Bar was first in the series to be realized, made from the most common and yet most unusual of building materials: umbrellas. The title refers to the great American inventor, Buckminster Fuller, who demonstrated how minimal energy geodesic domes could open a way to a more environmentally sustainable future. Could an umbrella dome to lead the way to a more socially sustainable future? The Bucky Bar is a full-scale model of such a future. It shows the power of space for spontaneous gathering, for improvised shelters to host conversations, debates, games or even parties ...

Yanni - Almost a Whisper & The Art of Lauri Blank Video Clips. Duration : 3.30 Mins.
Lauri Blank Lauri Blank was destined to be a creative soul with a burning passion for art. Raised by an artistic mother who attended design school in NYC, and grandparents that are still performing musicians (well into their 80's), Lauri was constantly engaged by creativity and artistic expression; the foundation of a future art career. The world's first acclaim of this talented artist came when she was just seven. Blank's Mother, having recognized the talent she possessed at such an early age, submitted Lauri's sketch of Betsy Ross to the local newspaper's bicentennial art competition. Her work placed first. Looking to expand her artistic horizons, Lauri began experimenting with different types of media. A few years later, at the age of 12, Lauri was honored by The Norton Museum of Art who included her three-dimensional painting of a young woman aging slowly in their prestigious national exhibition. Continuing on her path of creative exploration, Lauri became a successful model at 14, still painting whenever she could. Lauri absorbed all the written material she could acquire on the arts. She spent the next several years honing her skills privately while gracing the covers of magazines, catwalks and advertising campaigns. As is commensurate with most artistic souls, Blank wanted to move away and try something new; also in the field of art and design. Turning her creative sights on the fashion world, Lauri moved to Bogotá, Columbia. After establishing her own couture ...

Leeds Steampunk Market @ The Left Bank Centre, Headingley, Leeds - 10th March, 2012 Tube. Duration : 2.55 Mins.
Steampunk is a genre which came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s and incorporates elements of science fiction, fantasy, alternate history, horror, and speculative fiction. It involves a setting where steam power is widely used—whether in an alternate history such as Victorian era Britain or "Wild West"-era United States, or in a post-apocalyptic time —that incorporates elements of either science fiction or fantasy. Works of steampunk often feature anachronistic technology, or futuristic innovations as Victorians might have envisioned them, based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, and art. This technology includes such fictional machines as those found in the works of HG Wells and Jules Verne, or the contemporary authors Philip Pullman, Scott Westerfeld and China Mieville. Other examples of steampunk contain alternative history-style presentations of such technology as lighter-than-air airships, analog computers, or such digital mechanical computers as Charles Babbage and Ada Lovelace's Analytical Engine. Steampunk also refers to art, fashion, and design that are informed by the aesthetics of Steampunk literature. Various modern utilitarian objects have been modded by individual artisans into a pseudo-Victorian mechanical "steampunk" style, and a number of visual and musical artists have been described as steampunk. The video features views around the Leeds Steampunk Market at The Left Bank Centre on Cardigan Road in ...

adidas SLVR Autumn/Winter 2012-13 Campaign Video (HD) Tube. Duration : 1.58 Mins.
The new adidas SLVR Autumn/Winter 2012-13 campaign takes inspiration from Fritz Lang's classic silent film Metropolis. Shot by Willy Vanderperre, the ads present three group compositions against a patchwork of various wooden surfaces, evoking a contemporary behind-the-scenes feel. Architectural, yet loose and make-shift, the imagery continues to communicate adidas Sport Style Creative Director Dirk Schönberger's high-fashion perspective, which combines precision tailoring with a sport attitude. It is this contrast which is expressed through mixing stillness with dynamic moments, illustrating the fusion of tailoring and sportswear which is at the core of the collection. The video extends this idea into graphic moving footage, further carving out a distinct tonality for SLVR. Designed for life on the move, adidas SLVR continues its stride forward. Art Direction: Pietsch Lim | PL STUDIO Video: Willy Vanderperre Music: Baptiste & Pierre Colleu | bpcolleu.com Styling: Jay Massacret Hair Stylist: Anthony Turner Make-Up: Lucia Pica Models: Lara Mullen, Carlos Peters, Yannick Mantele

Michael Webb - Two Journeys - Cooper Union Exhibit Tube. Duration : 4.28 Mins.
Anthony Vidler and Michael Webb Speaking (1) Two Journeys - Works by Michael Webb Spring 2008 Robert Gwathmey Chair in Architecture and Art This exhibition is dedicated to the twenty-six first year students at The Cooper Union in Professor Webb's charge. Having spent the fall 2007 semester learning, through their drawings, who they are, Webb views the exhibition as an opportunity for the students to learn about him and his work. Organized in a linear manner; the exhibit can be read like the pages of a book. It concerns two themes: a train of thought deriving from the Reyner Banham article A Home is not a House (1965), and a study of linear perspective projection. Circa 1963, Webb joined the Archigram Group, a collection of six young architects rebelling against what they saw as an English architectural scene on life support. Through the pages of a magazine, the group produced highly colored images of 'a new architecture that would stand alongside the space capsules, the inflatable structures and the lifestyles of a new generation.' For the last eleven years, an exhibition of the group's work has been touring the world. Originating in Vienna, it visited New York in 1998, Seoul, Korea in 2002, and was mounted in London in 2004. Webb came to the United States in 1965, and has since taught architecture at The Cooper Union, Columbia University, and several other schools. Presented by The Irwin S. For copyright questions, email copyright@filterfoundry.com ______ Jonathan Gales, director at Factory Fifteen in London: "Liam Young, a tutor at the Architectural Association and founder of Tomorrows Thoughts Today, asked me if I was up for going to Chernobyl to film some nuclear destruction aftermath. I said yes. "Our work until now has been mainly concerned with the visual representation of the environments and architecture we have chosen to focus on. So one of the challenges for us here was working more with narrative, a writer and actor. 'GAMMA' was a great opportunity to use the narrative of the project to drive the film. There was an immense amount of design and production work of the elements we included, though we approached the film with them as supports rather than a focus. "As a project, 'GAMMA' contains a lot more live-action footage than many of our other works. Integrating our creations subtly (or not, as some cases show) and convincingly was a real challenge and opened us up to a skill base we had not developed until now. Integrating CGI and VFX with live-action footage is definitely something we want to continue to explore in our work as it helps keeps us grounded with the real world. WOODCARVING: Wood Carving by Alexander Grabovetskiy Tube. Duration : 1.55 Mins.
WOODCARVING ... Please click LIKE.. aalmarkllc.com Wood Carving by hand Hello! My name is Alexander A. Grabovetskiy . I'll keep this short. I am a World Class Master Woodcarver and Woodworking Artist. My company is Aalmark LLC. I am specializing in Architectural Hand Wood Carving. Carvings made by machines are available but cannot offer the same quality you will find in our carving. Machine made work shows the limitations of a spinning router blade and lacks any sharp, intricate detail. Each piece from our workshop is individually hand made. This gives our clients many advantages. We can work in any dimension, not forced to compromise a design to fit the dimensions of a machine in width or length. Our hand work allows us to adjust the pattern of a molding so that the corners have the traditional neat finish -- often with rich acanthus decoration -- not just a cut in the middle of a pattern because the material comes in fixed lengths. You will not be limited to the type of wood, unlike machined carving. Contractors even send us their material for carving. Because our work is done by hand, designs can be created that are unique to the client and location -- at no additional cost. Machine carving is not cheap and you are constantly having to compromise. Why not take that same budget and have custom hand carving that the client can be proud of. WOODCARVING And if you can use some human touch in you beautiful designs you will be blessed. Architecture of Morrowind: #9 Pelagiad, Caldera, Ebonheart Video Clips. Duration : 19.73 Mins.
In this video we look at the Imperial towns in Vvardenfall: Pelagiad, Caldera, and Ebonheart. All of the Imperial towns are somewhat based on a medieval European architectural style, and follow the pattern of a fort overlooking the shops and houses of the town. Ebonheart is slightly different in that it is a port, with no commoner dwellings. If you've played Oblivion, you may note that all of the cities in Cyrodiil, with the exception of the Imperial City, follow the same pattern as Pelagiad and Caldera, with the addition of a Chapel.

Artist Statement: I am an artist and I see the world differently. As an artist, I am just a paint brush. I paint who I am. I paint with what's around me. I paint what I feel. I feel what I paint. Sometimes I paint without touching the canvas at all. I start with raw materials, build my own canvas, develop my own color pallet from primary colors and embellish the artwork with elements around me. I have been known to paint with my body, to throw paint, to throw objects covered in paint, use fans, straws, sand, leaves, flowers and most recently the leaf blower. I create large art pieces using many colors, layers, materials, textures and ...

On the Architecture of Looking , 2010 (Part 1 of 3) Tube. Duration : 10.02 Mins.
In an interview by Dr Victoria Watson, Dr Penelope Haralambidou discusses the devices that structure our experience of Marcel Duchamp's enigmatic assemblage Étant Donnés. DESCRIPTION Desire has no objects, but merely architectures -- organisational devices that structure our experience -- intended to lure into the momentary satisfaction of an idea. If not actually here on show (The Surreal House, Barbican Art Centre), one piece that is vital to the conception of The Surreal House is Duchamp's Étant Donnés: its subject is a fractured body, certainly female and denuded, possibly mutilated. As Jane Alison points out in her introductory text, Étant Donnés is an investigation of the relationship between architecture and desire: "We can say with some certainty... that eroticism and architecture were the mainstays of Duchamp's decidedly non-retinal practice..." Watson and Haralambidou will argue that in order to understand the part played by the fragmented body in the architecture of Étant Donnés it is necessary to define the critical and indeed political nature of Duchamp's non-retinal practice. For Duchamp retinal practice referred to habitual architectures, originating in the Italian Renaissance, which had developed around and out of acts of building, viewing and painting. In constructing Étant Donnés Duchamp aimed to short-circuit these habitual architectures, which still to this day are assumed of visitors to galleries and museums, and to install the act of looking in the ...

Nine young designers from across the North have been named winners in the Northern Design Competition 2009, hosted by Leeds Met. An awards ceremony was held on 18 June in the University's flagship building, The Rose Bowl with special guest Ricky Wilson, Leeds Met alumnus and Kaiser Chiefs frontman, returning to the University to award the prize for Young Northern Designer. The overall winner - the Maurice Miller Northern Design Champion - as chosen by chair of judges, Red or Dead founder Wayne Hemingway, was Leeds University student Emily Dick with her entry Oh I do like to be beside the seaside (Clarence Pier) after she was named winner of the photography category. Emily, 21, from Warwick, said: "I am genuinely shocked to have won the category let alone the overall prize. It's so important for people to get their pride in Britain back and that's what my entry was about. It's also important to have a competition like this in the north and show people that there are top designers outside London. This event acts as a voice for all designers in the north." Jamie Shek from the University of Dundee won the Digital Media category with iGiveADamn and was also presented with the Thompson Real World Prize, a new prize in association with Thompson Brand Partners, the exhibition sponsors. The prize, judged by company founder Ian Thompson, seeks to find "the exhibited entry that would most likely change the world if made a reality." Young Northern Designer, a new category for this ...

City of the Future Video Clips. Duration : 64.83 Mins.
What does the city of the future look like? Gleaming skylines of chrome and glass as far as the eye can see? Lush gardens and urban farms where factories and city centers once dominated? Architect, futurist, and IIT faculty Marshall Brown has dedicated his career to pondering and predicting the city of tomorrow. What he imagines will surprise you. Georgeen Theodore, a partner at the award-winning New York architecture and design firm Interboro Partners, and Stephanie Smith, chief curator and deputy director at the University of Chicago's Smart Museum of Art, join Brown to share how the varied urban landscapes of the Midwest have contributed to their architectural visions of the future. The annual Richard Gray Visual Art Series recognizes a significant gift from founding CHF board member and distinguished art dealer Richard Gray.

adidas SLVR Spring/Summer 2013 Campaign Video (HD) Video Clips. Duration : 1.42 Mins.
The adidas SLVR Spring/Summer 2013 Campaign Video presents the new collection against a raw, make-shift backdrop, inspired by the movie Fight Club. www.facebook.com adidas SLVR Spring/Summer 2013 Campaign Video (HD) Bodies in motion tend to stay in motion. It's an age-old principle that is at the heart of the adidas SLVR Spring/Summer 2013 collection inspired by martial arts, Fight Club, and the human physique. Consequently the new campaign presents the collection against a raw, make-shift backdrop. Photographed by Willy Vanderperre, the campaign depicts group compositions shot against a set in constant flux, continuing an architectural yet loose look. The imagery communicates Dirk Schönberger's high-fashion perspective, combining precision tailoring with a sport attitude. The campaign extends this idea by presenting a fusion of seemingly opposing references like Hawaiian prints with boxing silhouettes. This clash illustrates the amalgamation of tailoring and sportswear as the core of the SLVR collection. The Spring/Summer 2013 video translates the concept into motion. Climaxing to silence, the edit uses acceleration of pace and raw distortion effects to merge the various looks into one contrasting edit. Creative Direction: Pietsch Lim / PL STUDIO Photography / Video Direction: Willy Vanderperre Styling: Jay Massacret Hair Stylist: Anthony Turner Make-Up: Gucci Westman Models: Eddie Klint / Malcolm De Ruiter / Marloes Horst

goetheanum architecture Video Clips. Duration : 9.98 Mins.
The first Goetheanum, a monumental double-domed wooden structure, richly carved and painted within, was begun in 1913. It opened in 1920 and was destroyed by fire on New Year's Eve 1922/23. In 1924 Rudolf Steiner presented his model for a second Goetheanum the present one made of reinforced concrete. Constructed between 1925 and 1928, it was the first large-scale building to employ this material for sculptural forms. Both buildings are based on an architectural concept in which each element, form and color bears an inner relation to the whole and the whole flows organically into its single elements in a process of metamorphosis. The second Goetheanum and its neighboring buildings were designed to harmonize with the local topography the movement of the terrain and the rocky spurs of the Jura mountains visible from the Birs river valley, ten kilometers southeast of Basel. High colored windows and the central west window indicate the large Main Auditorium and emphasise the uniqueness of its artistic and architectural qualities. A glance inside reveal the expressive power of architecture, interior design, color and space. East of the Auditorium and the stairwells, behind the stage is the wardrobe department with rooms for the creation, upkeep and storage of costumes, rehearsal stages and practice rooms, stage technology, and prop storage. To the north and south: conference and work rooms; bookstore, library and archives; Section and society offices; administration and ...

Spatial Alterity: the importance of unusual and unfamiliar spaces in everyday life - Knowledge Works Video Clips. Duration : 35.58 Mins.
In a world where urbanisation, globalisation, and mobility emphasise the individuality of places, it is important to understand how unusual and unfamiliar spaces can have a positive effect on culture and society in everyday life. Just as cultural alterity enriches the urban experience, so too can spaces be enriched by diversity. The unpredictable, the fantastic, the unimaginable are aspects of difference that have a rich and provocative history, and when incorporated into places, become a source of delight. In his Knowledge Works lecture, Dr Thomas Mical will present a variety of international, historical and cultural examples of cities and spaces that are both real and imaginary - including, Chicago, Berlin, London and Delhi - as a way of framing the potentiality of alterity to become a projective source of pleasure. Examples of spatial alterity from sources in literature, art, philosophy, architecture, and urbanism, which include medieval pleasure gardens, Baroque architecture, and Asian-European hybridity will also be outlined. Join us for this insightful lecture to learn how the the spaces we dwell in are enriched through the recognition and respect of the liberation of alterity. Dr. Thomas Mical has recently joined the University of South Australia's School of Art, Architecture, and Design as the Associate Professor of Architecture. He holds a professional Master of Architecture from Harvard University, and a PhD from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He has ...

2012 New American home by Phil Kean designs Tube. Duration : 3.22 Mins.
Phil Kean Designs is proud to be selected to design and build the 2012 New American Home. This year's New American Home is a re-interpretation of the Classic White Box of the 60′s and 70′s that was made so popular by such famous architects and artists as Le Corbusier and Richard Meier. While honoring the architecture of the past, the New American Home represents the priorities that are important to today's lifestyle... details rather than size, leading edge technology, and functional and transitional spaces that have a style and feel that evokes calm and serenity. All this in addition to the architectural significance and environmentally sensitive details found throughout. Comprised of walls of movable glass panels and motorized screens, the floor plan was designed so indoor and outdoor spaces flow into one another. The use of abundant natural lighting within the volumetric and spatial design creates a "wow" factor while also providing a comfortable and serene living environment. At 4100 square feet, the house will be displayed to appeal to the empty nester, but will have four additional rooms that could be converted to bedrooms if needed. The two bedrooms, a master suite with private workout studio, outdoor yoga deck, private sitting room, and spa-like master bath will be accessible by public stairs or private elevator and will take up the entire second floor. The guest suite is located on the main floor with an en-suite bath. Additional public spaces include an art ...
