2012 New American home by Phil Kean designs Tube. Duration : 3.22 Mins.

Phil Kean Designs is proud to be selected to design and build the 2012 New American Home. This year's New American Home is a re-interpretation of the Classic White Box of the 60′s and 70′s that was made so popular by such famous architects and artists as Le Corbusier and Richard Meier. While honoring the architecture of the past, the New American Home represents the priorities that are important to today's lifestyle... details rather than size, leading edge technology, and functional and transitional spaces that have a style and feel that evokes calm and serenity. All this in addition to the architectural significance and environmentally sensitive details found throughout. Comprised of walls of movable glass panels and motorized screens, the floor plan was designed so indoor and outdoor spaces flow into one another. The use of abundant natural lighting within the volumetric and spatial design creates a "wow" factor while also providing a comfortable and serene living environment. At 4100 square feet, the house will be displayed to appeal to the empty nester, but will have four additional rooms that could be converted to bedrooms if needed. The two bedrooms, a master suite with private workout studio, outdoor yoga deck, private sitting room, and spa-like master bath will be accessible by public stairs or private elevator and will take up the entire second floor. The guest suite is located on the main floor with an en-suite bath. Additional public spaces include an art ...

Robert Mars American Artist discusses his process and concepts. Video Clips. Duration : 4.18 Mins.

Robert Mars discusses the concepts behind his artwork and how the 1960's had significant impact in creating icons of American history that still have relevance today. These icons exist in architecture, furniture design, typography, Automobile design, as well as the socialites and movie stars of the era. Mars is a product of the subdivided and nuanced skateboarding subculture of the early 1980's. In the pre-internet era, where information was not instantly available to millions, any show, meet-up, or happening might be advertised on one flyer or by word of mouth. Only those "in the know" had access to their personal heroes, their icons. In merging his concept of personal idols with those of a more mainstream audience, Mars has focused his work on a deeper analysis of what he considers a "Golden Age" of more accessible American personalities. He has always been fascinated with the era of the 1960's. His early work reflects many of the architectural and mechanical icons of the era. Muscle cars, motels, logos, and hulking monuments to the "modern" feeling of the 1960's permeate his sometimes-lonely landscapes. His more recent work celebrates the culture of celebrity of the 1960's. He is attuned to the instantly recognizable luminaries and idols of the era. The feeling is that there was a tighter cast of characters that achieved the zenith of their popularity in the 60's. There were no "instant internet" celebrities, and instead we live with the myth of more of the enduring ...

Public domain film from the Library of Congress Prelinger Archive, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and equalization. en.wikipedia.org Industrial design is the use of a combination of applied art and applied science to improve the aesthetics, ergonomics, and usability of a product, but it may also be used to improve the product's marketability and production. The role of an industrial designer is to create and execute design solutions for problems of form, usability, physical ergonomics, marketing, brand development, and sales. The first use of the term "industrial design" is often attributed to the designer Joseph Claude Sinel in 1919 (although he himself denied this in interviews), but the discipline predates 1919 by at least a decade. Its origins lie in the industrialization of consumer products. For instance the Deutscher Werkbund, founded in 1907 and a precursor to the Bauhaus, was a state-sponsored effort to integrate traditional crafts and industrial mass-production techniques, to put Germany on a competitive footing with England and the United States... American Art Deco: Architecture and Regionalism

A lavishly illustrated survey of American Art Deco architecture.

Art deco architecture flourished in large cities and small towns throughout America in the 1920s and 1930s. Many of the best examples office buildings, movie theaters, hotels, and churches are still in use. Deco architects, artists, and designers drew on European styles but were most committed to a style that grew organically, as they saw it, from their native soil. Two themes bound Deco buildings and their decorative schemes together: a regional pride that tied buildings to their specific locales and functions, and a growing national symbolism that asserted the buildings' identity as uniquely, independently American. American Art Deco features description sand over 500 color photographs of seventy-five lavish and innovatively designed buildings across the country that have been preserved both outside and in, giving the full scope of this beloved, exciting style. ...Read more

Lancashire: The Rural North (Pevsner Architectural Guides)

Lancashire: The Rural North (Pevsner Architectural Guides) Overviews
An area of extreme contrasts, from the close-packed but proudly independent textile towns north of Manchester to the romantic scenery of the southern Lake District, and from high Pennine moors to the sandy beaches of Bloackpool and the Fylde Coast. Wordsworth's poem describes how the beauty of the ruins of Furness Abbey reduced even a gang of railway navvies to reverential silence. Many gentry houses display a tenacious local brand of Jacobean; others, including the Pugins' Scarisbrick, demonstrate the strong local affinity with the Gothic Revival. Voysey's internationally important Arts-and-Crafts houses in Lakeland sit happily alongside the whitewashed local cottages.

Modern American Houses: Fifty Years of Design in Architectural Record

With essays by Thomas Hine, Robert Campbell, Suzanne Stephens, Charles Gandee, and Raul A. Barreneche

Architectural Record is the premier architectural magazine in America, with a devoted following among architects, designers, and the increasingly design-minded public. Drawing from the roster of award-winning residences featured since 1956 in Record Houses, the magazine's prestigious "best of" annual issue, this revised and expanded edition of the popular 1996 Abrams book showcases more than 75 of the most innovative and influential houses built in the last 50 years.

Designed by such luminaries as Philip Johnson, Richard Meier, Gwathmey Siegel & Associates, Frank Gehry, and this year's Pritzker Prize-winner, Thom Mayne of Morphosis, these houses have helped shape the direction of residential architecture. Texts by six noted architectural writers provide illuminating commentary on the key trends and developments of residential architecture in the last half century, and each decade is represented by a stunning portfolio of photographs, along with numerous plans and drawings. Both inspiring and informative, this book chronicles a fascinating period in modern American architecture. ...Read more
