Melissa Ayr - Painting with Air - Contemporary Abstract Artist Paints with a Leaf Blower Contemporary Abstract Artist, Melissa Ayr is an artist who paints with air. Ayr has emerged from her studio with a fresh perspective on contemporary painting with her unique practice of using a leaf blower to push paint on canvas. Ayr releases her latest works as a collection inspired by California, the Poppy Collection sets the tone and elements of this floral series with vibrant luminosity. Ayr creates her own canvas and color pallet with a mixture of pigment, oil and acrylic. Classically trained in the elements of composition, color and perspective, Ayr creates her latest collection using Air produced by a leaf blower. Ayr applies the paint in translucent layers on the Canvas and is able to control the air to bend and shape into the essence of floral. Artist Statement: I am an artist and I see the world differently. As an artist, I am just a paint brush. I paint who I am. I paint with what's around me. I paint what I feel. I feel what I paint. Sometimes I paint without touching the canvas at all. I start with raw materials, build my own canvas, develop my own color pallet from primary colors and embellish the artwork with elements around me. I have been known to paint with my body, to throw paint, to throw objects covered in paint, use fans, straws, sand, leaves, flowers and most recently the leaf blower. Of the 53 original cases of XDR TB, none survived. 67 percent of those infected had been recently hospitalized at the Tugela Ferry clinic and at closer inspection it became clear that the hospital's poor design had helped to transmit this airborne disease. The Design Framework for Health Facilities is an on-line tool designed to gather resources from a cross-disciplinary field of problems solvers and confront this crisis of inappropriate health facility design. Developed as an interactive program, the Framework will be a resource for architects and health care providers to better understand and develop strategies to resist tragedies like that in Tegula Ferry and to aid in the creation of contextually relevant facilities in resource constrained settings. The framework, developed with the support from United States Agency for International Development (USAID), World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation, will also be a forum for medical workers to learn from a forum of architects, planners, doctors, nurses, patients, policy makers, and epidemiologists. Urban Abstract was created by Jopsu Ramu and Timo Huhtala - creative team and founders of Musuta Ltd. Jopsu Ramu is a young female designer and Creative Director of Musuta Ltd. Timo Huhtala is her creative partner and manager of Musuta Ltd. This digital art piece was commissioned by TV Nelonen / channel 4 Finland and it was shown as the November break bumpers on one of the biggest commercial TV channels in Finland: TV Nelonen. Urban Abstract has been highly awarded, it has won bronze / in book award in D&Ad awards in London, Bronze in European Design awards in Rotterdam and most recently it won a Gold Lion from design category in Cannes Lions. Urban Abstract -piece was born in Tokyo during 2009. It consists of 40 X five second clips or it can be viewed as a one 200 second journey. The website urban-abstract.com works as a part of the piece and creates an extra dimension for the clips shown on TV. URBAN ABSTRACT - About the concept: Urban Abstract is a journey across urban space that unfolds in forty, 5 second parts. The journey, in one, two and three dimensions, is a bit like abstract surfing in which the original destination is only reached after a number of seemingly random yet linked detours occur. Points , lines, planes and other abstract elements create a journey through an Urban Abstract. The space between things is as important as intended space, perhaps creating a fourth dimension.
