Architect and Associate Professor Manuel A. Báez incorporates the theme of the Crystal & Flame as he presents an overview of his architectural research and work. The metaphoric theme relates to the ubiquitous correlation between static form/structure and dynamic process or constraints and freedom that is intrinsically found throughout abstract, physical and biological phenomena. Báez has been at the Carleton University Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism since January of 2001. Previously, he taught in the United States at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City and Rhode Island School Design in Providence, RI. His work as an architect, artist and researcher draws inspiration from the generative potential of the forms, structures and integrative systems generated by elemental processes that exist throughout the natural environment. His educational concerns, interests and objectives are focused on the development of teaching methods and procedures derived from the research. Báez has extensively exhibited and lectured on his work and research in various international conferences and institutions.
