Northern Design Competition 2009: Launch Event Video Clips. Duration : 2.92 Mins.


This year's Northern Design Competition, run by Leeds Met, has been launched at the University during an event held last night. Wayne Hemingway, the founder of fashion label Red or Dead will head the competition's judging panel as the search for the cream of the north's design talent begins. Now in its fourth year, the Northern Design Competition is establishing itself as one of the region's premier contests for up and coming designers and this year sees the addition of a new category, the Young Northern Design category. The launch at Old Broadcasting House also included a small exhibition of work from last year's winners. The competition aims to showcase the talents of university, college and school designers and provides an opportunity for potential employers to meet them. This year, the Northern Design competition is bigger and better than ever before with categories including product, digital, graphic, architectural, photography and fashion design. Prize money will total £10000. Wayne said: "This will be the fourth year of the Northern Design Competition, a competition that received over 2500 entries last year. Last year was my first year as a judge and I was heartened by the overall standard. The competition celebrates the best young design talent in the North . "Design has a strong base in the North and as a northerner, I am pleased to once again be taking up my position as chair, I am looking forward to seeing what this year's competition produces."
