Dr Theodore Carney Family Home Ilion NY Video Clips. Duration : 3.05 Mins.

In 1959, Dr. Theodore and Margaret Carney began plans to build a 3600 square foot house; one that could accommodate their growing family. The architect of their new home was Egils P. Hermanovski of Great Neck, NY. The architectural style was Mid-Century modern. The style (also referred to as Post-War Modern) arose from the post WWII suburban housing boom. Characteristics of MCM architecture include: clean, simple lines; walls of glass, open floor plans that incorporate outdoor space; open, beamed ceilings; emphasis on the horizontal plane, and flat, or wide-angled roofs. The architect's title for the Carney house plan was The "Triangle". The land was cleared by general contractor, John LaFlair, on Wednesday, May 20, 1959. The foundation was dug May 22, 1959. Building of the concrete block foundation was started on May 26, 1959 by the Netti brothers. Ray Johnson was the plumbing contractor. On January 1, 1960, Ted and Margaret Carney moved, with their eight children, from their 3 bedroom home on High St., into the new home at 12 Crescent Street, Ilion NY. By 1963, nine Carney children were living in the home with their parents. After Dr. Carney's death in 1967, Margaret continued to raise her family, in the 'big' house, for a total or 34 years. Who says you can't go home again? Take a peek inside the Carney home, as it was back in 1994, just prior to being sold.
