The Peddie School Ian Graham Athletic Center Video Clips. Duration : 1.28 Mins.

The Peddie School needed an updated facility for their award-winning swim team and other sports teams and activities. The concourse of the new and expanded Athletic and Aquatic Center creates a welcoming entry, a gathering place for students and visitors and a cohesive connection between the field house, natatorium, fitness center and other facilities. Slender, recessed linear slots contain lighting, sprinklers and speakers, and create a rhythm and vocabulary for the entire building. With a state-of-the-art Light Pipe lighting system at the pool, and luminous exterior walls that glow white or "Peddie Blue" at night, the campus has a new center of activity and excitement.

Grand Opening of Kauffman Center For The Performing Arts (HD) Video Clips. Duration : 12.97 Mins.

A long video detailed on the Grand Opening of The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. An event center with two huge theatres. Located in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, USA, at 16th and Broadway near the Power & Light District, the Sprint Center and the Crossroads Arts District. It is part of the ongoing redevelopment of downtown Kansas City. The Center was created as a non-profit organization. Unlike some other major civic construction projects, no taxpayer funds have gone into its construction. The City of Kansas City, however, has built and will operate a parking garage at the Center. It will be performance home to the Kansas City Symphony, the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, and the Kansas City Ballet which in the past performed eight blocks north of the center at the Lyric Theatre (Kansas City, Missouri) The Center itself is an approximately 285000 square foot (26500 m2) facility with two sophisticated performance venues: the 1800-seat proscenium-style Muriel Kauffman Theatre and 1600-seat concert Helzberg Hall. The Kauffman Center covers 13 acres (53000 m2), including landscaped grounds over a 1000-space underground parking garage. The technical requirements and exacting standards required of a facility like the Kauffman Center make it one of the most complex structures in the world to design and build. The cost of the project was approximately 3 million, including a million operating endowment. DesignersThe Kauffman Center was designed by lead architect ...

carpenter center for visual arts Le corbusier Tube. Duration : 4.48 Mins.

Despite the controversy over the wisdom of placing a building of such modern design in a traditional location, Le Corbusier felt that a building devoted to the visual arts must be an experience of freedom and unbound creativity. A traditional building for the visual arts would have been a contradiction. The ...

MACOMB, IL -- It was a grand day today (April 26) as the ceremonial groundbreaking for the Western Illinois University Performing Arts Center took place on the WIU-Macomb campus. In addition, a seven-figure bequest from retired WIU administrator Tate Lindahl to support the center's operation was announced. Legislators, local organizations and campus and community members have worked together over the years to lobby for the center. "Through partnerships and collaboration, the WIU Performing Arts Center has become a reality. I cannot thank enough our local legislators, our campus community and our many friends, Gov. Pat Quinn and Capital Development Director Jim Underwood for their support of this cultural center, which will be an incredible asset to this region. I would also like to recognize Tate Lindahl's generosity for, and support of, this project and Western Illinois University," noted WIU President Al Goldfarb. "This project is an investment in the future of Western Illinois University, and in this region's economy," said Gov. Pat Quinn. "Not only will this project create jobs during construction, it will also enable WIU to increase its educational offerings and provide the people of Macomb with a state-of-the-art facility for music, dance and theater productions." In Summer 2009, Gov. Pat Quinn signed a bill for Illinois Jobs Now!, a jobs and capital construction plan, which provided .8 million in capital development funds for constructing the Performing Arts ...

Mikael Olsson - Södrakull Frösakull at Hasselblad Center 2009. Tube. Duration : 2.17 Mins.

HASSELBLAD CENTER 5SEPT - 25OCT 2009. The Swedish artist Mikael Olsson has in his latest project been exploring the heritage of Bruno Mathsson, one of Swedish modernism's leading designers, through two of his architectural works. In Frösakull -- a house that Mathsson both designed and lived in Olsson has interacted with the remains of the house, and like Mathsson he has experimented with the house and its possibilities. The result is a collection of images which show us an interpretation of an architectonic legacy. Olsson has arranged and transformed the rooms into a stage, often using light, emptiness and shadow as the only props. The Södrakull residence, which had been closed off since Mathsson passed away, is approached in a different way: as a voyeur. The interiors are photographed from the outside and through half-drawn curtains. Olsson is here a surreptitious observer rather than participator and the images reflect an outsider's fettered view of a private domain. In this body of work Olsson has created an interplay between presence and absence, inner meaning and representation. The images are marked both by intimacy and distance. Together they form a sort of portrait, as well as a chronicle of architecture, remembrance and aging. For this reason the photographs cannot be considered documentary but instead a very subjective depiction of Mathsson's public and private legacy.

James 'Athenian' Stuart: The Rediscovery of Antiquity (Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts, Design & Culture)

The creation of the “Greek style” and its pervasive impact in England and on the Continent during the third quarter of the eighteenth century was largely due to James Stuart’s landmark multi-volume publication Antiquities of Athens, coauthored with Nicholas Revett. Stuart, subsequently known as “Athenian” Stuart, went on to a highly influential career that spanned the fields of architecture, interior decoration, furnishings, sculpture, and metalwork. This lavishly illustrated book is the first to examine Stuart’s multi-dimensional career and the full scope of his contributions as designer, artist, and tastemaker.
An international team of scholars consider each area of Stuart’s work, his early training, interest in archaeology, unique network of patrons, poor record for completing projects, and legacy. With illustrations and discussion of the stunning neo-classical furnishings he created at Spencer House, the Greek Doric Temple at Hagley, and numerous other remarkable projects, the book brings Stuart’s achievements to light more clearly than ever before.

(Deer Valley Rock Art Center) Architecture: Archinect Travels Episode 4 Tube. Duration : 11.75 Mins.

From Unbeige.com "Last year, Archinect editor Marlin Watson, a self-described "disillusioned architect," embarked on a cross-country road trip with a video camera to find out what we talk about when we talk about architecture in America. In December, he finally started posting his discoveries as the new feature Archinect Travels. Part travelogue, part documentary, Watson's incredibly personal narration and nice camera work make good companions for this journey, which he explains like this: This is an architectural sabbatical, beginning and ending in Los Angeles and traveling as far east as Chicago. We'll make the land a large museum and each building site will become objects for study and scrutiny. The first tour of duty takes us through the American Southwest, from the modernist epicenter of Los Angeles to the magical money-spewing castles of Laughlin, Nevada; from Taliesin West to the cliffside dwellings outside Sedona. Download the episodes for your iPod/iPhone and stay tuned for future episodes, including a tour of Minneapolis with Ralph Nelson and Dan Clark of LOOM, the Nelson-Atkins museum in KC, Lake Shore Drive in Chicago, the Morphosis courthouse in Oregon, and hitchhiking on a golf cart with America's most famous architect. Hmmm, now who could that be?" Thanks for watching! EPISODE 5 and the rest of the story can be found at: www.archinect.com/travels
