Starving Artists - WRITING THE FILM MUSICAL Video Clips. Duration : 12.00 Mins.

This screenplay by Michael Giese & David Ladr, with music & lyrics by Roshann Lund & Casey Kidd, was created during the 2011 'Writing the Film Musical" course given by Diane Lake, assistant professor at Emerson College, Boston, and Michael Wartofsky, professor at Berklee College of Music. The course won the first Pro Arts Consortium Classroom Connect Award, for the most innovative course design by faculty collaborating across multiple ProArts schools. The course matches Berklee songwriters--composers and lyricists--with Emerson screenwriters to create original screenplays with songs. Students study the screenplays of a variety of film musicals from the beginning of the genre to the present. Working in teams, writing students from Emerson complete an outline and first act of an original screenplay, and composers and lyricists from Berklee write songs to help tell that story. The semester ends with staged readings—with music—performed by acting/musical theatre students from both Berklee and Emerson. WRITING THE FILM MUSICAL will next be offered Fall 2012.
